Berlinale 2009 opened today

The great thing about the annual film festivals is that they always come as planned.

The 59th Berlin International Film Festival officially opened today, on February 5, 2009,  with the world premiere action thriller The International directed by Tom Tykwer. And out of the blue, I saw him today on Podsdamer Platz..

After I bought tickets at the official Berlinale stand in the Pordsdamer Platz Arkaden for my first Berlinale movie Zum Vergleich (I promise to write about this movie after I have seen it), I was heading to the library to pick up some books. On my way, I spotted the crowd of people around the Hyatt Regency. I got curious and joined the crowd for a while. I had no idea whom they were waiting for and then saw Tom Tykwer on his way to the press conference:

Note: Tom Tykwer is a German film director internationally known for Run Lola Run (1998) and Das Parfüm (Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, 2006). The International, an American action thriller starring Naomi Watts and Clive Owen, is his latest work. The movie follows the story of a pair that investigates corruption network within a banking institution.
